EL 11 DE FEBRERO DE 1989 ENCONTRÁNDOSE AL PAIRO EN EL ATLÁNTICO SUR A 300 KM APROXIMADAMENTE DE LAS COSTAS DE ARGENTINA EN LA GUARDIA DEL SEGUNDO OFICIAL ( Mapule) FUE EMBESTIDO POR LA BANDA DE ESTRIBOR POR EL PESQUERO DE BANDERA TAIWANES "Chen 66".AL CABO DE UNAS HORAS SE ESCORO SOBRE EL " RIÓ NAJAZA " QUE SE ENCONTRABA ABARLOADO A SU BANDA DE ESTRIBOR TODOS SUS TRIPULANTES 86 ABANDONAN PASANDO AL RIÓ NAJAZA, UN DÍA DESPUÉS ES CAÑONEADO POR LA ARMADA ARGENTINA POR ENCONTRARSE A MEDIO HUNDIR Y SER UN PELIGRO PARA LA NAVEGACIÓN.


(Nota aclaratoria)

Todo parece indicar que existe un error en esta nota, el buque "Río Najaza" debió estar abarloado por la banda de babor del "Río Zaza" porque si hubiera estado en esa posición, seria quien recibiría el abordaje del barco taiwanés.

De acuerdo a la información ofrecida por el tripulante Reynaldo Figueroa Saval en Facebook, el buque "Rio Zaza" fue embestido primero y luego se abarloa al buque "Rio Najasa".

As a consequence of a collision with the Taiwanese motor fishing vessel Shun Cheng No. 66 in bad weather conditions in the South Atlantic Ocean approximately 300 miles off the coast of Argentina, the 12-year-old Cuban motor stern-trawling fish factory Rio Zaza sank on February 11, 1989. All 86 members of her crew were safely taken on board another Cuban motor stern-trawling fish factory, the Rio Najasa, which proceeded to Montevideo. The Taiwanese vessel decided to proceed directly to Taiwan for repairs due to the magnitude of the damage that she had sustained. (from Maritime Casualties 1963-1996 by N.Hooke)
