    VAPOR "CARLOS MANUEL DE CÉSPEDES"

En los inicios de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, el gobierno Británico encargó a los astilleros canadienses la construcción en serie de un tipo de buque de carga derivado de los clásicos de superestructuras discontinuas. Los primeros barcos producidos fureon del tipo, North Sands ( NORTHEAST COAST OPEN SHELTER DECKER STEAMER ), basados en los planos originales suministrados por los astilleros ingleses J.L. Thompson & Sons, Sunderland. Un ejemplo de esta clase de buques es el “CARLOS MANUEL DE CESPEDES”.

Fue construido en Octubre de 1943 en los astilleros United Shipyard Ltd., Montreal, con el nombre de “FORT MOOSE”,  –D.O.C. ( Dominion of Canadá )-, para la naviera Larrinaga Steamship Co., Liverpool.

•En 1948, se renombró “HALIGONIAN PRINCE, por Acadia Overseas Freighters, Halifax.•En 1950, “TULSE HILL, Counties Ship Management Co., London.•En 1966, pasó a propietarios griegos, “ASTRONAFTIS”.•En 1968, fue comprado por la Empresa de Navegación Mambisa, La Habana, Cuba, rebautizándolo “CARLOS MANUEL DE CÉSPEDES”.
•En 1973, fue desguazado en Vinaroz, Castellón.
