Harrison Line's Liberty Ship SUCCESSOR - posted here in order to correct Ships Monthly's error in publishing the wrong caption to this photograph on page 42 of October's edition (out today) in connection with my article on the buyers of the ship, Zela Shipping
Harrison Line’s Successor, seen in Alfred Basin, Birkenhead , was sold to Zela Shipping in 1963, retaining the British flag until 1967. Built at Baltimore in 1944 as Samhope and managed by Reardon Smith, she had been sold by the British Government in 1947 to Mollers Limited for operation as Rosalie Moller on their round the world cargo liner service. However this service soon failed and she was resold to Harrisons in 1948. Zela sold the ship on to Mambisa of Cuba in 1968 to trade as Ignacio Agramonte until broken up at San Esteban de Pravia in October 1974. [Author’s collection]
